Philosophical foundation of knowledge creation on Africa

Context specific research is required to foster a development process in Africa that meets existential challenges. In highlighting this requirement, this paper argues for the development of appropriate theories, methodologies, and conceptualisation of phenomena founded on African ontologies and epistemologies. The paper deems this the task of African scholars in contributing to well-founded knowledge on Africa.

The author takes the arguments in the paper from a social constructionist perspective, acknowledging that African experiences and knowledge of the world are different from those of other peoples. To this end, knowledge on Africa is possible within the African epistemological context, and such knowledge must be validated only on the basis of this context.
