Expertise and human resources

Farafina Institute's team of researchers comprises sociologists, political scientists, anthropologists, economists, legal experts, psychologists, statisticians, environmentalist, agronomists, linguists and communication experts from a network of academic institutions, including the following:
Farafina Institute relies on the long-standing research experience of the researchers of the Institute of African Studies (IAS) as well as on the expertise of over 75 doctoral students of the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS) who conduct their research on various African countries and in 17 different disciplines. Moreover, Farafina Institute benefits from the expertise of researchers of the network of 30 partner universities that the University of Bayreuth has built throughout Africa over the last 30 years.

We also work closely with African experts and development practitioners working with national and local institutions as well as with scholars in the African Good Governance Network (AGGN), which is an initiative launched by the former German Bundespäsident, Horst Köhler, in 2007 to promote best practices in good governance in Africa.  The AGGN is composed of more than 50 African scholars, students and experts coming from 16 countries and working mostly in Africa. Farafina Institute is strongly connected to that network and utilizes its resources to implement its surveys and projects in Africa.

Our core team of experts and researchers is comprised of more than 35 scholars and experts from the above mentioned network of institutions (The Institute of African Studies of the University of Bayreuth, The Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies, the African Good Governance Network and our Partner Universities in Africa). Seventy percent of our investigating researchers are Africans and 50% are based in Africa.

Our investigating researchers have the expertise to deal with complex analyses and provide the most appropriate recommendations. They are multilingual and work in different official languages as Baule, Malinke, Bambara, Akan, Ewe, Ga-Adagme, Hausa, Wolof, and Kiswahili etc.
