Valerie studied English at the University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) where she obtained her Diploma of General Academic English Studies (DEUG II- Anglais). She worked in Ouagadougou from November 1999 to August 2004 as a member of the committee for the Canadian project about theater pedagogy "Contes pour l'an 2000".

Form September 2004 to September 2005, Valerie applied for a German language course at the Technical University of Freiberg (Germany) and obtained her language skills certificate(DSH). She studied Social Work from September 2005 to August 2008 at the University of Applied Sciences in Mittweida (Hochschule Mittweida – Germany) and obtained her diploma as Social Worker in August 2008. Since October 2008, she registered as a PhD-candidate at the University of Kassel in the department of Human Sciences and assists her supervisor in teaching courses for Bachelor and Master Students about qualitative research methods such as ethnography, participant observation, and social spaces theories. Valerie also took courses at the University of Kassel on Migration and Social Work in the project "Students for Students" during the summer semester 2009. From October 2012 she has been working on the publication for her PhD. Her main topics are Migration, Integration, Ethnography, and Voluntaries' Abroad.

Her PhD research project was on inner West-African migration processes. Specifically, it focuses on remigration processes of Burkinabè working migrants who moved from Côte d'Ivoire as their hosting country to Burkina Faso as their country of origin in the movement of expulsion from Côte d'Ivoire because of civil war in 2002.
